NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — The Brooklyn Bridge has reopened after police shot a knife-wielding man who was on the cables of the bridge early Friday morning, according to authorities.
Police were called to the scene around 3:28 a.m., where they found a man walking on the cables of the bridge with a knife, authorities said during a news conference on Friday. Officers from the Emergency Service Unit got on the cables and attempted to talk the man down for almost an hour, officials reported.

That’s when the man told the officers, “I want to die. I want you to kill me. I have a bomb. You are going to make me do something bad to the cops.”
The man began to descend the cables, making his way towards the ESU officers, while they made multiple commands for him to drop his knife.

When the man came within 3 feet of one of the ESU officers, he raised his knife, police said. That’s when another officer fired his gun once from the roadbed of the bridge and shot the man once.
The man was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries, according to the fire department. He was later pronounced dead, police said.

The bridge closed to traffic around 4:17 a.m. for the police investigation, the 511 website said. The Brooklyn-bound side of the bridge remained closed until about 8:30 a.m., when it finally reopened to the public…
