New York City Gets Flooded Again

A “flood watch” has been in effect in and around New York City for almost two days. As is sometimes the case, flooding actually became a huge problem. New York faces a challenge similar to that of other cities up and down America’s Atlantic Coast. Cities were not built for the effects of global warming, especially when combined with the natural occurrence of heavy rain or high winds.

Some parts of New York City are highly flood-prone. They show up on New York City’s Coastal Flood Hazard Map. Most are in Queens and parts of Brooklyn. The map shows the areas street by street. It also shows forecast flood zones as they will appear over the next few years.
