NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — Torrential rain, damaging winds and coastal flooding are expected to batter New York and New Jersey starting as early as Friday evening and lasting through Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood warning, a wind advisory and a high wind warning for New York City, Long Island, Westchester, Rockland and parts of New Jersey. PIX11 meteorologists say the mix of winds and rain will also bring the potential for power outages throughout the tri-state.

Timing of the storm
The nor’easter is expected to begin as early as Friday evening in the tri-state with rain beginning before 11 p.m., the National Weather Service website shows. Winds are expected to pick up to about 24 to 29 mph with gusts as high as 39 mph.
The rain is expected to pause briefly in the overnight hours before they return early Saturday morning, likely before 8 a.m., forecasters from the National Weather Service say. The rain is expected to slow to some light showers, on and off until about 11 a.m., after which downpours will pick back up with a steady pace throughout the rest of Saturday, according to the NWS.
