Slinger Francisco, the celebrated performer known worldwide as the Mighty Sparrow, died Sunday in New York at age 91.
The calypso icon died peacefully following a brief illness, his family announced. Francisco spent more than six decades shaping Caribbean music and earned the title “Calypso King of the World” for bringing the sounds of Trinidad and Tobago to international audiences.
