A Bronx mother says her 3-year-old son went missing while in the care of educators at a Belmont Head Start charter school.
Navaisha Parsons arrived to pick up her son on Jan. 17 and things took a turn for the worse when he couldn’t be found.
“I went into the office and I sat down and that’s when they told me that he has wandered out of the classroom,” said Parsons.
Parsons says the teachers noticed he was missing and called downstairs. They all searched for him and found him in the basement of the school. Now, she’s full of questions – Parsons says her son can’t open a door knob on his own, let alone walk down a flight of steps without assistance.
“Oh the camera system is down, oh somebody is coming to fix the cameras, oh we’re not a part of the investigation, the higher ups are part of the investigation,” said Parsons. “I even asked for the incident report, they didn’t give it to me.”
The Department of Health tells News 12 that this child care program was investigated on Jan. 18. They found inadequate supervision at the program and required them to immediately close. The program will now have to submit a corrective action plan in order to reopen.
