Man charged for slashing 19-year-old with boxcutter on Brooklyn street corner

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A 19-year-old man was cut with a boxcutter on a Brooklyn street early Saturday morning, and police quickly charged a suspect in the unprovoked attack, authorities said.

The victim was at the corner of Ditmas Avenue and McDonald Avenue, on the border of Kensington and Borough Park, when a stranger asked him what he was looking at, police said.

When the 19-year-old responded that he wasn’t looking at anything, the alleged perpetrator slashed him across the back with a boxcutter.

Officials said that the victim has a gash across the left side of his back, and was taken to Maimonides Medical Center in stable condition.

A man was taken into custody, who police later identified as Marco Bautista, 25. Bautista lives around the block from where the attack occurred, in Kensington.

Bautista was charged with felony assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

He was previously charged with public lewdness in 2020 and DWI in 2021.
