NYPD Cops Punched and Kicked in Face During Times Square Attack by Gang Members

Five of the men seen in surveillance footage of the attack were identified and apprehended

Five people have been arrested and now face gang assault charges after attacking a pair of NYPD officers in New York’s Times Square Saturday night.

Sources told The Messenger that five of the men seen in surveillance footage of the attack were identified and apprehended. They range in age from 19 to 29.

One lives in a Brooklyn homeless shelter, while another was residing in city-funded migrant housing in Queens.

The two cops were attempting to arrest a man in Times Square when a group surrounded them on West 42nd Street, punching and kicking the officers.

One of the cops is seen being kicked in the face.

Seven other people are still being sought in the attack.

The five men also were charged with disorderly conduct and assault on a police officer.

The two cops sustained minor injuries in the attack, and were treated at the scene.

PBA President Patrick Hendry said “attacks on police officers are becoming an epidemic, and the reason is the revolving door we’re seeing in cases like this one. It is impossible for police officers to deal effectively with crime and disorder if the justice system can’t or won’t protect us while we do that work.”
