NYC Secures $137M Hotel Deals to House Migrant Families

Mayor Eric Adams’ administration has recently secured additional emergency hotel deals to accommodate the influx of migrants arriving in New York City. These contracts, totaling $137 million, will provide over 750 rooms for asylum-seeker families with children. City records reveal that the largest contract, worth $54 million, was awarded to Housing Options & Geriatric Association Resources.

The Bronx-based company specializes in assisting vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, the mentally ill, the homeless, and individuals with special needs. They will be utilizing a Queens Holiday Inn with nearly 400 units to house migrants. These multi-million dollar agreements demonstrate how the migrant crisis has presented an opportunity for the struggling hotel industry in New York City, which has been striving for recovery after the pandemic. Just last week, City Hall also signed a $75 million deal with the Hotel Association of New York City (HANYC) to offer temporary shelter to migrant families as a “last resort” solution. Under this program, families will stay at one of the 15 designated hotels for up to four weeks.
