$53M NYC Pilot Program: $1,000 Monthly Aid for Migrants

New York City’s $53 Million Program Sparks Debate Over Migrant Assistance

New York City, NY – Mayor Eric Adams’ administration, in collaboration with Mobility Capital Finance, has launched a groundbreaking $53 million pilot program aimed at providing approximately $1,000 in monthly credits to migrant families residing in the city’s hotels. This innovative initiative has triggered a range of reactions, with Americans expressing both support and criticism for the program that seeks to address the challenges faced by asylum seekers awaiting federal work authorization.

The program, run by the New Jersey-based company Mobility Capital Finance (MoCaFi), involves distributing pre-paid credit cards to asylum-seeking families. These cards can be used to purchase food at various outlets, including bodegas, grocery stores, supermarkets, and convenience stores. As a condition for participating, migrants are required to sign an affidavit affirming that the funds will be spent exclusively on food or baby supplies. Any misuse of the funds could lead to expulsion from the program.
