Migrants in NYC to receive free money

New York City announced on Friday that they will be starting a program in which they will give out free pre-paid credit cards to the migrants that are currently staying in hotels.

The program will begin in test mode with 500 asylum seekers in partnership with Mobility Capital Finance. The immigrants will receive $1,000 per month so that they will be able to buy their own food.

Here is a quote from Mobility Capital Finance CEO Wole Coaxum about the program.

“MoCaFi looks forward to partnering with New York City to disburse funds for asylum seekers to purchase fresh, hot food. MoCaFi’s goal is to expand access to financial resources for individuals excluded from banking, such as asylum seekers, while helping the local economy.”

This program is similar to the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) that is used throughout the country. However, the opening for fraud could become prevalent because some people that have SNAP benefits trade them for cash or drugs.

Last week, five migrants were released without bail after they beat up two New York City police officers. Now, they will be rewarded with $1,000 per month for attacking police officers. Let me know in the comments how you feel about this new program from the administration of New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
