MANHATTAN – For the NYPD it’s one down and one to go in the vicious Chelsea Christmas Eve assault and robbery.

The NYPD announced the arrest of Yanoadiael Acosta of Washington Heights in the December 24th Chelsea mugging. Acosta was charged with robbery and misapplication of property. Another suspect is still being sought by cops.

At around 4 am on December 24, a 23-year-old male got into an argument with a group of individuals in the vicinity of 22nd Street and 7th Avenue in Chelsea. Cops said the dispute turned violent as the fight became physical leading two members of the group to chase after the man.

The victim was chased across the street but was caught by the attackers. Cops said the attackers knocked the man to the ground and repeatedly punched and stomped on the victim’s head as lay on the sidewalk.

The attackers then grabbed the victim’s cell phone and fled northbound on 7th Avenue.

The victim was taken by private means to New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
