Drug dealer busted outside L.I. charter school in front of kids: Hempstead Police

A notorious convicted drug dealer has been arrested again in Hempstead after he was caught by police allegedly selling narcotics in broad daylight “right across the street” from an elementary school.

Hempstead Police said Damien Roland, 38, was standing on the sidewalk selling crack this week on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 4:03 p.m. as students were being let out at the Academy Charter Elementary School.

Police said he was conducting drug transactions “during dismissal time” in front of “children [who] were walking up and down the sidewalk”.

Roland, who lives in Inwood, was allegedly conducting business in front of the Family & Children’s Association, located across the street from the school at 117 North Franklin Avenue.

Police Officer Matthew Drew said in a sworn court filing that police watched two men complete a sale, then searched the customer to recover a “yellow vial” containing crack.
