Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso Declares August 16 Maino Day

August 16, was officially declared “Maino Day” by Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso in honor of the local artist Jermaine Coleman, better known as Maino.

Maino popular in Bed-Stuy and has worked as a neighborhood champion. Reynoso, along with other government leaders and Brooklynites, acknowledged the rapper’s contributions to his local neighborhood and hip-hop culture.

“Hip-hop is more than a genre – it’s a way of healing, growing, and giving back to the neighborhoods that made us,” Reynoso said. “All over Brooklyn and beyond, Maino is recognized as an inspiration because he proves the power of hip-hop to bring us together through good times and bad. Maino Day will serve as a celebration of his legacy and a reminder to Brooklynites to never give up and never forget to spread love.”

“I want to put up a stage for local artists and have some vendors… I want to have programs that speak on financial literacy, real estate, because the neighborhood needs information,” said Maino.

“They gave me the opportunity to choose a day,” Maino explained on Way Up With Angela Yee. “So I chose my mother’s birthday, August 16th.”
