Private jet leaves Newark Airport runway causing flight delays

A private jet went off a Newark Liberty International Airport runway on Thursday causing delays, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

“The FAA slowed the flow of arriving flights earlier today because an Embraer business jet went off the runway after landing. This resulted in a temporary runway closure which reduced the airport’s arrival capacity,” an FAA spokesperson said.

The plane suffered wing damage in the incident around 1:50 p.m., but there were no injuries, according to WNBC-New York.

United Airlines responded to a passenger on X, formerly Twitter, writing: “An aircraft was stuck on the runway at EWR, and some aircraft needed to circle the airspace.”

As of Thursday evening, Newark Airport was experiencing average delays of 55 minutes on incoming flights and 40 minutes on departures, according to Flight Aware, which monitors airport delays.
