N.Y. weather: Thunderstorms, ‘heavy rain’ possible Thursday and Friday nights

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Fourth of July weekend in New York state may be punctuated with thunder and lightning. An increasing risk of showers and thunderstorms on Thursday may put a damper on fireworks displays in New York City, while other regions of the state may stay relatively dry, according to Brian Hurley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service at the Weather Prediction Center.
