Students from Cardinal Spellman High School were evacuated after the school received a phoned-in threat just after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. The threat was deemed not credible by the NYPD. Eight students had minor injuries during the evacuation, according to the NYPD. The school sent an email to notify parents of the evacuation at 11:05 a.m., saying “your children are all safe.” Parents tell News 12 they should have been notified sooner. “I get it, you can’t control situations like this… but notifying the parents is a priority,” said concerned mother Taneka Spencer. Parents said the school has a “no cellphone” policy for it’s students. One father says his daughter reached out to him using another student’s phone. “Her friends texted me on WhatsApp. There were no emergency notifications, I got nothing on my phone,” said Robert Phifer. Mother Taneka Spencer, said she’s thankful her daughter didn’t follow the policy. “If my child did not have her cellphone on her, to this moment, I would have no clue on what was happening,” she said. Cardinal Spellman High School was scheduled to host a “Bronx Catholic School Fair” at 6 p.m., inviting other high school representatives and prospective students to visit. In a statement to News 12, the Archdiocese of New York confirmed “The building was declared safe, and the high school fair will go on.” ”
