Thousands of New York City Housing Authority residents are getting coronavirus related rent relief money from the state. The state is giving NYCHA 35 million dollars to be distributed to help address COVID-related rental arrears. Qualifying public housing families could be covered for up to 12 months of past due rent that accumulated between March of 2020 and May of 2023. Governor Hochul says the money is to help ensure tenants impacted by the pandemic could remain stably housed. Previously, the State delivered 159 million to 27,000 NYCHA households through the Emergency Rental Assistance Program.
