Services To Be Held In Yonkers For Teacher Killed In Murder-Suicide: May Cause Traffic Delays

Visitation and funeral services for Eastchester Union Free School District teacher Arlene O’Neill, who was killed in a murder-suicide at her Yonkers home on Wednesday morning, Oct. 16, will be held on both Tuesday, Oct. 22, and Wednesday, Oct. 23.

O’Neill, a fifth-grade teacher at the Anne Hutchinson School, was fatally shot at her Chittenden Avenue home by her husband, retired New York City Police Department officer Sean O’Neill, age 54. He then turned the gun on himself, authorities said, also adding that the couple’s three children, Sean, age 15, Brendan, age 13, and Nolan, age 11, were home at the time.

According to Yonkers Police, the visitation service will be held on Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Flynn Memorial Home at 1652 Central Park Ave. and will likely cause traffic congestion on the northbound Central Park Avenue service road between Tuckahoe Road and Plymouth Avenue.

Parking on the service road and surrounding streets will be limited, the department added.

Additionally, a service for O’Neill will be held on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Annunciation Church at 475 Westchester Ave. This will also cause traffic congestion in the area, police said, adding that St. Eleanoras Lane will be closed between Scarsdale Road and Westchester Avenue to keep attendees safe.
