LI motorist busted with cocaine after fatally mowing down bicyclist in hit-and-run crash

WESTBURY, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A Long Island driver was caught with cocaine after fatally striking a bicyclist in a hit-and-run crash over the weekend, Nassau County officials said Wednesday.

According to detectives, at 3:53 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27, a 2006 grey Chrysler Sebring was traveling eastbound on Old Country Road in Westbury when it struck a bicyclist near the intersection of State Street.

Wilfredo Blanco Molina, 41, fled the scene and continued to drive eastbound on Old Country Road, authorities said.

The bicyclist sustained extensive injuries and was pronounced dead at scene.

He was later identified by police as 69-year-old Robert McCarthy, of Hicksville.

Officers located Blanco Molina a short time later near the intersection of Old Country Road and the Wantagh State Parkway. A field sobriety test was conducted resulting in positive results and Blanco Molina was arrested.

Officials also found Blanco Molina with a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine on him.

Blanco Molina was charged with vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of an incident, criminal possession of a controlled substance and driving while intoxicated. He was arraigned on Monday, Oct. 28.
