KIPS BAY, Manhattan (PIX11) — A woman was raped in a car during an encounter with a stranger in Manhattan last month, police said.
The woman, 30, and the suspect met up near East 29th Street and Second Avenue in Kips Bay just before 4 a.m. on Oct. 27, according to the NYPD. Authorities said the suspect then raped the woman in his car before driving off in a white Chevy Malibu with tinted windows. It was unclear how the woman escaped from the vehicle.
Investigators believe the victim and the man may have met at a bar and left together before the incident, according to police. Investigators suspect the woman may have been drugged.
The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The area is patrolled by the 13th Precinct, where rapes are up 72% this year compared to 2023, according to NYPD data.
