Allerton tenants say nuisance neighbor causing destruction, damaging cars

Tenants living in an Allerton apartment building say a neighbor has been damaging their cars by throwing objects, including a knife, off a top-floor balcony. A meat cleaver, flat-screen TV, glass bottles and full bags of trash – those are some of the items tenants have found littering the parking lot next to and on their cars at 2300 Olinville Ave. “This (knife) hit my car, there is a witness in the building who saw him throw this off the terrace and hit my car,” said Michael Zaibel who has lived in the building for more than 50 years. Zaibel says he and his neighbors have witnessed a tenant throw objects from a 19th-floor balcony into the parking lot. They say the items have landed on at least three vehicles and have shattered his windshield, causing a significant amount of damage. The most recent incident happened on Dec. 14 when Zaibel says a bottle was thrown at his back windshield and shattered the glass completely. “I’m the lucky one, I got the most damage, well over $5,000 in damage,” said Zaibel. Ira Kofsky, who is also a longtime tenant, came home from vacation to find his windshield shattered earlier this year. “I spoke with police I got the police report, it cost me 250 dollars to get the windshield replaced,” said Kofsky. Kofsky and Zaibel have filed at least three police report this year, but no one has been held responsible for the damage. They also say their complaints to Pinnacle Management, that manages the building, have not been responded to. News 12 contacted Pinnacle Management multiple times for this report, they said they were looking into the matter but did not respond further. “I got a response once, yes we’re going to investigate this matter, and basically it all comes down to management, they need to be proactive,” said Serge, who has lived in the building for 15 years. Tenants say they pay an additional fee for an assigned parking spot in the lot attached to the building. Zaibel has temporarily moved his car to a lot a few blocks from the building. “Nobody calls back, nobody gives a damn, nobody gives a damn until god forbid, he kills somebody, or seriously injuries somebody,” said Zaibel. ”
