Arctic Blast Sends Temperatures Below Zero Across Parts of New York, Pennsylvania, and New England

Light to Moderate Snow Likely Across Southeast Massachusetts & Rhode Island

12/20/24 9:30am EST

Good morning everyone. The Northeast & New England are our main focus of the forecast today as a complex system passes through, then arctic air rushes in behind it. We have a complicated time ahead today through tomorrow early afternoon as a clipper-type system screeches to a halt, then tries to redevelop offshore.

Development will happen “too late” as far as throwing back heavy snows across a large area of the Northeast and New England. However, we could still see some trouble spots overnight tonight and tomorrow, but first we start out with some afternoon mixed precipitation changing to a cold rain along the coast, with some light snow possible inland.

As our system tries to redevelop, we could see some heavier snows across parts of southeast New England. Cape Cod has the best chance to get in on this brief period of moderate to heavy snow, but we could see those bands kick back into other parts of southeast Massachusetts and Rhode Island. We’ll also watch the Forks of Long Island just in case some of that banding is able to back up a little further.
