NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The NYPD is advising New Yorkers that drones are flying around the World Trade Center on Thursday as part of a planned flight.
The pre-scheduled and permitted flight began around 7 a.m. and will last until 5 p.m. Thursday, the NYPD’s First Precinct posted on X.
“This flight will take place in the vicinity of the World Trade Center,” police said.
Police gave the heads up as the NYC area has been gripped by drone fever over the past month.
Over 5,000 reports of drone sightings prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to issue temporary bans on most drone flights in New Jersey and New York through mid-January.
Federal agencies investigating sightings said last week they hadn’t identified “anything anomalous” from their observations and that most of the sightings appear to be lawfully operated aircraft.
