New York kidnapping suspect arrested in North Carolina, police say

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A man wanted on kidnapping charges out of New York who eluded police in a chase in Garner on Christmas Day is now in the Wake County Jail, according to the Garner Police Department.

On Wednesday, Garner police said that 25-year-old Daveaun Whittle had been arrested Monday by the Wake County Sheriff’s Office. The WCSO has made no announcement of Whittle’s arrest and CBS 17 is waiting to hear back on a request for more information.

Whittle’s arrest record shows a home address as a home in Knightdale in the 1000 block of Silverbell Lane, though his arrest location is listed as the Wake County Jail at 3301 Hammond Road in Raleigh.

The charges Whittle faces are:

  • Hit/run, leaving scene and inflicting property damage — dated 12/25/24
  • Felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle — dated 12/25/24
  • Second degree kidnapping by a fugitive with criminal obstruction, criminal mischief out of Rockland County, NY — dated 12/30/24
