Senior NYCHA tenants get access to heat during the winter season

NEW YORK (PIX11)– From delivering repairs to heating an apartment during the winter and helping one neighborhood move some unwanted furry creatures out of their neighborhood. PIX11’s Monica Morales made it happen.

Some seniors at the Upaca 6 in East Harlem were outraged and freezing in their homes before the holidays.

Richard Brisbane, 79, says he’s feeling the love and the heat in the new year. Thanks to NYCHA and Maria Pacheco, Upaca 6’s tenant president, for helping make it happen.

A Queens mother and daughter shared their harrowing experience with PIX11 News. They were not just living in fear, but the presence of unwanted visitors disrupted their daily lives.

They had a reoccurring problem of unwanted visitors for years of a four-legged kind – raccoons.

Just outside their front door, they captured this picture. One watching two other raccoons fight on takeout in the garbage.  After our story, management immediately sprang into action, buying new garbage cans with lids and hiring experts to bait trap and remove raccoons for the next two weeks.
