NY man becomes fifth person charged in connection with murder of men found in NJ woods

A fifth person has been arrested in connection with the murder of Kuldeep Kumar, 35, an India native whose body was discovered last month in the woods of Ocean County, authorities said.

Sandeep Kumar, 34, from South Ozone Park, New York, was arrested Friday and charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder following an investigation by the FBI, New Jersey State Police, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Manchester Township Police Department, according to a joint statement by Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer and State Police Superintendent Col. Patrick Callahan.

Kumar is being held at the Ocean County Jail, pending a detention hearing.

According to the investigation, Sandeep Kumar allegedly worked with four other men from Greenwood, Indiana — Sourav Kumar, 23, Guarav Singh, 27, Nirmal Singh, 30, and Gurdeep Singh, 22 — to carry out the murder. All of these men were arrested in Indiana and are now pending extradition to New Jersey, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
