NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A Brooklyn man was sentenced to prison for an execution style murder that left one man dead and another paralyzed, prosecutors announced Monday.
Romaine McRae, 40, was sentenced to an aggregate of 45 years to life, followed by five years of post-release supervision, after a jury convicted him on all charges, including murder i, attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon, according to Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler.
According to court documents, McRae and co-defendant Dwayne Hines carried out a brazen double shooting and execution on Lander Street in Newburgh on April 24, 2023.
Two men were shot, resulting in one man’s death and leaving the other paralyzed, prosecutors said.
An investigation led to the arrest of McRae and Hines on July 12, 2023 in Brooklyn.
Hines previously pled guilty to murder and attempted murder and is pending sentence.
“The sentence imposed for this defendant, which should all but ensure he will never again be free to commit acts of violence, reflects the merciless carnage he perpetrated” said Hoovler. “But for the intrepid investigation by the City of Newburgh Police Department and their dedicated Detective Bureau, this defendant might have avoided the long arm of justice.”
