Good Samaritan attempts Hudson River rescue — but ended up needing to be rescued himself: cops

A good Samaritan jumped into the Hudson River Saturday morning after seeing someone dive into the dicey waters off Manhattan just moments earlier — but ended up needing to be rescued himself, cops said.

A 24-year-old man first went into the drink around 9:20 a.m. at West 43rd Street and 12th Avenue, prompting the 50-year-old witness to jump in to save him, cops said.

FDNY rescue swimmers were quickly called to the scene, an FDNY spokesman said. They lowered a rescue swimmer wearing special equipment into the water and “he was able to make contact with one of the patients and get him up the ladder,” the spokesman said…
