A New Jersey woman suffered “catastrophic and permanent injuries” in a car crash caused by an allegedly drunk NYPD officer who opened fire during a road rage incident, she said in a lawsuit.
Stephanie Hummel was left with a collapsed lung, numerous fractures and “permanent cardiac disfunction” after off-duty Officer Hieu Tran shot another driver in southern New Jersey, sending the man’s vehicle careening into hers, according to Manhattan federal court papers.
Tran, 28, was heading home to Yonkers from a wedding in May 2024 when he pulled up to a red light around 11 p.m. and shot at the vehicle next to him, allegedly without warning, then drove off, according to prosecutors and court papers.
