LONG ISLAND (PIX11) — A 41-year-old Tyson Carter exclaims, “He’s the Michael Jordan of reconstruction.”
Tyson’s grateful words are directed toward surgeon Laurent Ganry, who reconstructed his nose. It was bitten off during a fight that ensued after Carter came to the aid of a woman who was being harassed at a bus stop by two men.

“I didn’t realize how bad it was. I just knew I had parts missing. Without my glasses, I can’t see six inches in front of me, so I was basically walking around half blind,” Carter said.At Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Dr. Ganry 3D printed Carter’s face and modeled the missing nose with clay to get a template that was useful for each surgical step.Dr. Laurent Ganry explained, “It’s an old technique, but when referenced to a modern approach in 2025, basically the idea is to take a piece of skin from the forehead and fit it to the nose to reconstruct it. The tip of the nose was missing, so we had to create half of the nose and mirror it to what was needed.”
“My heart just dropped,” Ty’s mother declared when she saw her son after he was attacked, but she was most pleased to see the result of multiple surgeries to restore her son’s nose.“I feel very good, just overjoyed that his nose has come out so well. He’ll be able to breathe easily and he’ll look more or less like himself,” she said…
