Cuomo concedes to Mamdani as primary heads to ranked-choice count

(NewsNation) — Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo conceded Tuesday night to Zohran Mamdani in the New York City mayoral primary, as the 33-year-old Socialist Democratic candidate held a substantial lead with the race heading to a ranked-choice count.

“Tonight was not our night,” Cuomo told his supporters Tuesday evening. “Tonight was Assemblyman Mamdani’s night.”

New York City permits mail-in votes postmarked by primary day to be counted for a week after, so the subsequent rounds of ranked choice voting aren’t likely to be released until next July 1…
