New York City man gets 18 years to life in prison on gun charge as persistent felon

A New York City man was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison for having a gun during a traffic stop in Warren County – his seventh felony conviction.

Novashawn Bannister, 30, was arrested on Dec. 14, 2023 after a traffic stop on Old Mill Lane in Queensbury. Warren County Sheriff’s officers found a loaded unregistered .380-caliber semiautomatic handgun in his possession, according to the Warren County District Attorney’s Office.

A jury found Bannister guilty after a five-day trial last July…
