NYC extends hours of pools and cooling centers amid heat

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — To help give New Yorkers an escape from the extreme heat, some cooling spots will stay open a little later this week.

State-run swimming pools, cooling facilities and parks will have extended opening hours on Tuesday and Wednesday, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Tuesday.

More Local News

In the five boroughs, cooling centers can include libraries, older adult care centers, offices of councilmembers, community centers, YMCA facilities and more.

Long Island

  • Jones Beach State Park: Field 6 & Central Mall
  • Robert Moses State Park: Field 2 & 5
  • Sunken Meadow State Park: Main Beach
  • Hither Hills State Park

New York City

  • Gantry Plaza State Park
  • Four Freedoms State Park
  • Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park
