MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) — There’s a new push to ban the sale of birds in New York pet stores.
New York City Councilwoman Diana Ayala introduced a bill that would amend Local Law 132 by adding birds to the list of animals that cannot be sold in commercial establishments in the five boroughs.

It does not include poultry birds like chickens. Councilmembers Christopher Marte and Shahana Hanif are sponsors. The New York State Assembly is considering a similar bill, introduced by Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal.
