Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello announced that a 35-year-old Jersey City man was arrested on Friday, August 8, 2025, in connection with a sexual assault that occurred in Jersey City on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
Richard Murphy, of Jersey City, is charged with aggravated sexual assault, burglary, and aggravated assault. He was taken into custody at Jersey City Medical Center and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
According to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, Jersey City police responded to Sussex Street shortly after 11:30 p.m. on July 26, 2025, following a report of a sexual assault.
