Man abducts daughter without mom’s consent, caught crossing N.J. state lines, police say

A Virginia man was detained on Thursday after taking his daughter from her New York school and trying to bring her to his home in Virginia without the mother’s consent, officials said.

Luis Johanser Mota, 35, of Stafford, Virginia is being charged as an out of state fugitive by the Delaware River and Bay Authority, where he was apprehended, and may face additional charges from the New York Police Department, where the abduction occurred, the DRBA said.

A missing person’s report was filed after the 5-year-old girl was taken from her school in New York City. The DRBA was notified that Mota was headed south around 1:30 p.m. and two police units identified, followed and stopped Mota’s vehicle near the Delaware Memorial Bridge Toll Plaza.
