The wife of a slain New York City Police Department officer killed in a mass shooting at a Manhattan high-rise last month gave birth to the couple’s third child this week, the agency announced.
“Out of tragedy, a new life has entered this world,” NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch wrote in an Aug. 18 post on X. “Last night, Jamila Islam, the wife of Detective First Grade Didarul Islam, gave birth to their beautiful son, Arham.”
A nearly four-year NYPD veteran, Islam was killed in a mass shooting on July 28, in a skyscraper where he was working a paid security detail.
At the time of his death, in a statement on the precinct’s social media, city leaders called Islam “a husband, father, and dedicated public servant” and said he was survived by two young sons and his wife, who had been expecting the couple’s third child…
