WHEELING, W.Va. — A New York man has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for his role in an identity theft scheme involving fraudulent tax returns.
Bolarinwa Salau, 30, of Rockaway Beach, New York, received a 24-month sentence after pleading guilty to identity theft, according to federal prosecutors.
Court records show that during a traffic stop, West Virginia State Police discovered multiple identification documents in Salau’s vehicle. Investigators determined the documents were part of a stolen identity refund fraud scheme, known as “SIRF.”
