A Bronx man was handed a seven-year prison sentence for a shooting incident that resulted in injuries to two women aboard an MTA bus. The sentencing, announced by Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark, addresses the consequence of gunfire that mistakenly struck passengers instead of the intended target.
Anibal Colon, 47, accepted a plea deal, admitting to one count of Attempted Assault in the First Degree on July 30. “This defendant fired multiple shots from a handgun on a busy street in the middle of the day. One of those bullets shattered the window of a passing bus and seriously wounded a passenger in the shoulder,” District Attorney Clark stated. Colon’s action, which took place at approximately 3:20 p.m. on July 1, 2023, led to one woman suffering a life-altering shoulder injury, and another sustaining minor cuts from the shattered glass, as noted by the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.
Colon faced justice in the Bronx Supreme Court where Justice Timothy Lewis imposed the sentenced. Furthermore, Colon will undergo five years of post-release supervision. The situation unfolded at the intersection of Union Avenue and East 156th Street when nine shots were fired from a 9 mm semi-automatic weapon.
