Bronx Father Sentenced to Seven Years for Manslaughter of 3-Month-Old Daughter

A Bronx man was sentenced to seven years in prison for the manslaughter of his 3-month-old daughter, an incident that has drawn attention to the tragic consequences of violent caregiving. According to a statement obtained by the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, Damion Comager, 26, pleaded guilty to shaking his infant daughter Genevieve to death in a fit of frustration because she would not stop crying. This act ultimately led to her demise between May 10, 2023, and May 16, 2023, at a homeless shelter where the family resided.

Bronx Supreme Court Justice Audrey Stone ordered Comager to simultaneously serve his seven-year sentence for first-degree manslaughter and a one-and-one-third to four-year sentence for concealment of a human corpse. These sentences are to run concurrently, a measure decided to possibly better serve the interest of justice. The case prosecutor, Assistant District Attorney Serena Newell, described the punishment as a bid to bring justice for “an innocent life taken so soon,” as mentioned in a press release by the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.

In the aftermath of the death, Comager and the infant’s mother, Ivana Paolozzi, were accused of trying to hide the tragic outcome. Comager confessed to his actions and led detectives to the location where Genevieve’s body had been heartlessly discarded near Yankee Stadium, dressed, put in a stroller, and then placed in bags on the side of the Major Deegan Expressway.
