Police shot and wounded a Bronx teen after officials say he robbed his relatives at gunpoint Thursday night, barricaded himself in an apartment and injured an NYPD officer while trying to escape.
Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera said the incident unfolded around 9:15 p.m., when officers from the 49th Precinct responded to a 911 call from the 18-year-old’s father, who said the teen had a gun and had stolen items from his mother and older brother at a home in Van Nest. The father said his son had fled to a different address on East Gun Hill Road near Paulding Avenue in Williamsbridge, according to Rivera.
Police and the father went to that building, and officers established a perimeter, Rivera said. The chief said they knocked on the door and heard the 18-year-old’s voice saying he wasn’t the person they were looking for, but the father recognized it was his son.
