Mother facing charges after newborn found at Penn Station, police say

A mother is facing charges in the case of a newborn baby left unattended earlier this week at a New York City subway station.

Police said 30-year-old Assa Diawara, of Queens, was charged early Wednesday morning with abandonment of a child and endangering the welfare of a child.

Investigators say they were able to follow her movements on surveillance video, leading to a residence and eventually finding her on the street.
