GoFundMe Launched for Family of Construction Worker Killed at Gateway Tunnel Site

A fundraiser has been launched to support the family of Jorge Sanchez, the 52-year-old construction worker who died after falling 60 feet into a shaft at the Gateway Tunnel project site in Hudson Yards on Thursday morning. As of publication, the GoFundMe campaign had raised $26,990 of its $35,000 goal from 158 donations.

“My father was not just another person, not another construction worker,” wrote his daughter, Gloria Sanchez, who created the campaign. “He was a father, a husband, a friend and even more — the hardest worker you would ever meet and come home with the biggest smile on his face.”

Gloria described her father as “the kindest soul you could ever meet,” adding that “he helped anyone and everyone, and would never hurt a soul. His name was Jorge Sanchez — a family man who did anything for them.” She wrote that the family is “devastated in our hearts from this heart-aching pain that will forever live with us,” and thanked donors for “the support and love” shown in the days since his death…
