Hochul speaks on impact of federal budget cuts in NYC

NEW YORK (PIX11) — New York State will “fast-track” $30 million in emergency food assistance as the ongoing government shutdown threatens New Yorkers’ SNAP benefits, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Monday.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced earlier Monday that SNAP benefits will not be issued starting on Nov. 1 due to the government shutdown. About 3 million New Yorkers receive SNAP benefits to buy food.

“This’ll support our food security network,” Hochul said. “It will help keep food pantries stocked, little kids’ tummies fed.”…
