A lost puppy is safe and back home after officers from the New York Police Department (NYPD) pulled him from the subway tracks during rush hour in Manhattan.
According to an NYPD spokesperson, Moose — a small black dog with short curly hair — slipped away from his family while they were out together and ended up under a northbound 2 train at the 14 Street station on Thursday, Oct. 23. The pup was struck by the train before taking shelter beneath one of its cars.
Officers from the department’s Emergency Service Unit responded to a 911 call about the trapped dog at around 9:45 a.m. They managed to reach Moose and safely remove him without causing further harm.
Body camera footage later shared on the NYPD’s official X account shows one officer climbing down a small ladder to the tracks, using a flashlight to locate the frightened animal hiding under the train. Other officers and transit workers watched as the rescue unfolded.
Once he spotted Moose, the officer gently called out to him, coaxing the dog closer before carefully pulling him to safety. Cheers erupted from bystanders on the platform as the officer handed Moose to his fellow team members…
