New bill would force some New York drivers to get $1K ‘speed limiter’

New York’s notorious speeders may soon be forced to pump the brakes if a proposed state law gets the green light.

The legislation would mandate the installation of “speed limiter devices” in the vehicles of about 3,000 chronic speeders with multiple violations, using GPS technology to cap how fast their cars can go.

The cost for these units is pegged at $1,000 each under the proposed law. Other states have taken various approaches to curb speeding, with Florida advocating for a “super speeder” law and Maryland deploying speed cameras statewide. “This technology does work,” Sen. Andrew Gounardes, a co-sponsor of the Stop Super Speeders Act, told The New York Post during a tech demo.
