NYC Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s Administration Draws 50,000 Job Applicants Reflecting Public Enthusiasm

As Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani prepares to take office, about 50,000 applications have been submitted for roles in his incoming administration. USA Today reports that Mamdani said the large volume shows strong interest in joining city government. Nearly half of the applications were submitted on the first day the portal opened.

Maria Torres-Springer, co-chair of Mamdani’s transition team and former deputy mayor, told CBS News that the large number of applications is a positive sign for the incoming administration. According to Torres-Springer, people from a wide range of backgrounds—experienced policymakers as well as those just starting their careers have applied to support Mamdani’s affordability agenda.

Mamdani’s election as the first democratic socialist mayor of the nation’s largest city has drawn significant public attention and financial support. According to USA Today, his transition committee raised more than $500,000 from over 7,000 donors in less than 30 hours.
