State Recovers Over $2.6 Million Worth of Stolen Goods in Retail Theft Crackdown

More than $2.6 million in stolen goods has been recovered across New York since new initiatives to combat retail theft statewide were introduced in April 2024. Governor Kathy Hochul, who made the announcement on Wednesday, says State Police and local law enforcement partners have made 1,224 arrests and filed 2,146 charges related to retail theft. She adds that the state’s effort to tackle the pandemic-era surge in thefts has resulted in a 13% decrease in larcenies outside of New York City from January through June of this year, compared to the same time in 2024.
