An armed man who attacked a store owner in Fairview was taken into custody just before 8:30 p.m., ending an hours-long SWAT standoff in Cliffside Park on Friday, Nov. 28, authorities said.
The incident began around 3:30 p.m., when Oliver Checo (the same man who was arrested after a 12-hour standoff last December in Guttenberg) confronted a store owner on Anderson Avenue in Fairview, Deputy Fairview Police Chief John Pierrotti said. The attack was unprovoked, and Checo was “talking gibberish” when he hit the store owner several times, Pierrotti said.
