OMNY users may soon see remaining balances in NYC subways

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — MetroCard users might remember seeing their remaining card balance when swiping into the subway, helping them to keep track of when to reload. Now, a similar feature could be coming for OMNY.

The MTA is “exploring the possibility” of displaying remaining OMNY balances when subway riders tap at a turnstile, a spokesperson for the agency told PIX11 News.

The possibility of the future update comes after customer feedback received during the MTA’s public comment period in August.

In a September Board meeting, MTA officials acknowledged that many riders requested more visibility and transparency of payment and trip history to better keep track of when they were receiving free rides.
